What is the significance of sugar skulls?
Decorating sugar skulls is a traditional folk art from Southern Mexico used to celebrate the Day of the Dead. Mounds of sugar skulls are sold in open air markets leading up to the holiday, and are decorated with icing, bright foil, colored sugar, and often the name of the departed. They are used to decorate home altars and cemeteries to honor departed loved ones.
