The Lost River's selection of handmade batik clothing supports small family businesses both in Bali and in Moab. Traditional batik patterns are handed down over generations.  The pattern is drawn on the fabric and then wax is applied to the fabric on these patterns with a canting or "wax pen."   The fabric is then dyed and the wax removed revealing the pattern.  The use of hand batik fabrics from Indonesia is  preserving Indonesian culture and artisan traditions.

Beautiful color, but...

I bought two of these blouses. Having a couple similar rayon blouses at home, I expected a sililar experience with these. However, the fabric is "crinkle" and therefore a bit scratchy or rough compared with the smooth rayon of my other blouses. I am considering returning these. The second one, a gold and brown color, still had a significant amount of wax embedded in the fabric. After three hand washes in cool water I got some of it out, but the fabric remains a bit stiff and rougher than I like. Disappointing.
